Here we are going to give you some quick hitting tips and questions that will get you started with your discovery of your life purpose.

How do I find my Life Purpose?

What is my life purpose?

Big Picture
When we talk about purpose, we are talking about the big picture. If life is a puzzle we are putting together, purpose is the finished product made up of individual goals and motivations along the way. What we are pursuing each and every day may change based on our needs, but our larger purpose will stay fairly consistent throughout our adult lives.

Understanding that this is the big picture, our unique calling, means that we have to accept an important truth: we will never be able to perfectly define our purpose.

Purpose grows over time but its general shape remains that same. Just like our bodies change over time, sometimes dramatically, the fact that you are you never changes. You grow and learn more about yourself in the same way that we grow in our understanding of purpose.

Beyond Us
While each of our callings or purposes is unique, there is a common thread in how you find your purpose in life. Our purpose is never to serve our own ends but to be for something beyond ourselves. Research on calling has confirmed this many times over. A true calling is pro-social or other-centered. This gives our lives greater meaning and depth.

This doesn't mean that every calling is about world peace or saving the rainforest. It might be, but your purpose is what drives you as an individual. My own ties together my faith, my places of joy, and my current situations. My purpose statement is to make a positive, God-honoring impact on the world around me. Simple enough, right? But for me, each word in that phrase has deep and personal meaning. Which leads us to another important part of defining purpose.

Your Own
Just like with my personal purpose statement, we make purpose our own by understanding ourselves, increasing our self-awareness. This isn't some fluffy, in the clouds kind of advice. This is about real reflection and practice that allows you to know what is valuable to you, how you think, what your strengths are.

This begins to touch on areas of growth like emotional intelligence, personal strengths, and long-term goals. Understanding your own self helps propel a deeper understanding of your purpose.

Meaningful Work
Another theme in research around calling is that your purpose is something that is acted out through meaningful work. This is connected to your career and personal life, allowing for a bonding of the two together. It doesn't have to mean the same thing to everyone,  but it should mean the world to you.
